10 Tips to Extend your Two Way Radio Battery Life March 27, 2023

Tips 1

Charge new batteries overnight before use. This is called initialization and will allow you to get the maximum battery capacity:

Nickel Metal Hydride: 14-16 hours

Lithium Ion: Allow 1 to 2 hours of use after the charger light turns green

Tips 2

When a Senhaix battery is inserted into the Senhaix charger, the calibration cycle will be indicated by displaying a yellow indication on the charge status light. Do not remove the battery from the charger until the battery is fully charged and displays a steady green indicator to complete this calibration process.

Tip 3

To minimize capacity loss and shortened cycle life, Senhaix batteries need to be charged to 30% every three months when in storage. Senhaix batteries need to be charged to 30% after 17 months of storage.

Tip 4

Stop using obsolete batteries. Old batteries may not charge as well as new ones. Using an obsolete battery can also result in erratic operation, shortened life and impaired product performance.

Tip 5

Batteries stored for more than two months should be fully discharged and recharged.

Nickel Metal Hydride: 14-16 hours

Lithium Ion: Allow 1 to 2 hours of use before the charger light turns green

Tip 6

When using a Senhaix fast charger, leave the battery in the charger for an additional hour or two after the solid green light appears .

Tip 7

Keep battery contact surfaces clean. Dirty contacts are a major cause of charging problems. Regular cleaning is required for optimum performance. To remove dirt and residue, gently clean the contacts with a soft cloth. Pure alcohol can be used to remove grease and other contaminants.

Tip 8

Charge the battery only when needed. Do not charge if it is not fully discharged. We recommend that you carry a spare, as this is the most cost-effective solution for users requiring longer runs.

Tip 9

Do not return a fully charged battery to the charger for an "extra charge". This action will significantly reduce cycle life, as repeated short-cycle charging of batteries will shorten battery life. Do not use the charger as a radio stand for batteries.

Tip 10

Stabilize the battery to room temperature (22°) before charging. Charging at temperatures below 4° or above 40° will shorten cycle life.

Keeping your batteries maintained and running at maximum capacity not only saves you money through replacement costs, but also saves you time by ensuring an efficient and reliable communication system.
